Circuit RiderCourse

What is the Circuit RiderCourse?

Want to become a more skilled and confident rider and have a great time doing it? The Circuit RiderCourse, developed by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation in partnership with riding experts, empowers you to make informed decisions on the road while enjoying an engaging and exciting learning experience. This course is being provided exclusively to Virginia riders and paid for by the Virginia Rider Training Program (no cost to you!).

This one-day course focuses on practical, hands-on training that emphasizes choosing the right approach for your skill level and the specific riding situation—all in a fun and supportive environment. The class is not competitive and is appropriate for riders of all experience and skill levels.

(Note: A valid motorcycle license or endorsement is required.)

Visual Awareness & Risk Assessment

Learn to scan the road effectively, identify potential hazards, and evaluate the level of risk before reacting.

Cornering Strategies & Line Selection

Develop a deeper understanding of cornering dynamics and learn how to choose the optimal line based on road conditions, speed, and your skill level.

Effective Braking: Matching Technique to Situation

Practice various braking techniques, understanding when to use each one effectively and how to modulate brake pressure for maximum control.

What  will you learn?

What to expect

A short video from Heather, a rider, RiderCoach, and Riding Academy Manager talking about her experience with the CRC.

A full day of hands-on training with expert instructors who are passionate about riding and dedicated to making learning fun and engaging.

Practice in a controlled environment at speeds relevant to real-world riding (up to 35-65 mph in specific exercises) where you can experiment, refine your choices, and enjoy the thrill of improving your skills.

Opportunities for self-assessment, personalized feedback, and lively discussions with fellow riders.

A focus on empowering you to make confident and informed decisions on every ride while having a blast.

Requirements

  • Motorcycle  endorsement/license

  • Your own Street Legal Motorcycle

  • Protective gear:

    • Long sleeves or jacket

    • Sturdy, long pants

    • 3/4 or full-face helmet

    • Eye protection

    • Gloves

    • Boots

Signup for the CRC

Requirements

  • 3/4 or full-face DOT approved helmet

  • Helmet face shield or goggles

  • Motorcycle-specific, sturdy riding jacket made of leather or comparable synthetic material

  • Long pants made of sturdy material. Denim jeans are acceptable, but motorcycle-specific sturdy riding pants are recommended

  • Full-fingered, street motorcycle-specific gloves

  • Sturdy over-the-ankle footwear (leather preferred). NOTE: Athletic hi-tops do not meet this standard. Sturdy hiking boots that cover the ankle are acceptable
